The Anderson Erikson Dairy of Des Moines, Iowa, pioneered the use of placing pictures of missing children on milk cartons to provide public awareness of their abduction. The National Child Safety Council of Jackson, Michigan, leveraged a regional campaign to a national one that eventually went world wide. Criticism of the campaign (that it scared children while they were eating breakfast) by Dr. Benjamin Spock and others, as well as technology advancements (Amber alerts[1]) led milk producers to cease printing the pictures in the late 1980's.

The idea for this series was borrowed from this advertising campaign and uses a photograph of an unknown boy that was found on the sidewalk in front of our house.

[1] An Amber Alert is a child abduction notification warning broadcast through the Emergency Alert System in the United States and Canada. It as named after 9 year old Amber Hagerman, who was abducted and killed in 1996, by an unknown assailant, in Arlington, Texas.
